July 15-19

Exploration of Color $75 (Instructor: Roland Guidry)

The focus of exercises will be to understand various approaches to color usage across several mediums and art techniques to further an understanding of the use of color to create harmonious and interesting art works. The projects will focus on small scale works based on photographic images provided by the participants. The objective is to work quickly and experiment as much as possible, not to create a larger finished artwork.

Watercolor Techniques "Louisiana Landscapes" $75 (Instructor: CB Hume) 

With a few simple techniques you can create luminous Watercolor Paintings, We will be covering techniques to create Trees, Skies, Water, and much, much more...for painting those beautiful Louisiana Landscapes. Learn to mix fabulous colors and how to compose your paintings for powerful effects.

Press Free Monoprints $75 (Instructor: Patty McGehee)

 

Monotypes are one of a kind prints made with a variety of methods. This innovative class will show how to create a variety of printmaking surfaces and how to make prints from these surfaces. A variety of printmaking techniques will be taught as well as instruction on making ones' own printmaking plates. These fast, fun, and easy techniques will teach you new ways to create exciting monotype prints.

Abstract Dyed Wall Hangings $50 (Instructor: Tootie Calmes)

This is a three day class. All needed materials for 3-day class supplied. Students will each have the opportunity to make 2 wall hangings measuring 36X24 inches each. They will have 12 colors to choose from to "paint" their canvasses.

Portraiture in Oils, Acrylics $75 (Instructor: Cindy Rodger)

For those with some previous experience painting, learn how to paint a head and shoulder portrait in oils from a live model. Cindy has over 30 years experience painting portraits. She is also the founder and paint master for Artistic Lineage Oil Colors which are made in Hammond LA. Cindy will start with a demonstration as she teaches facial proportions and placement, how to create volume and space, along with expert color mixing for flesh tones. Then over the following four days, she will work one-on-one with the class as they oil sketch, mass in, and execute the portrait painting.

Oil Painting $90 (Instructor: Roland Guidry)

This is an introduction to basic painting techniques and skills using water mixable oils provided by instructor. You will execute two canvases, one a small still life with provided photo, and the second a larger landscape from a photo of your choice to demonstrate alternative approaches. Discussions and demonstrations will include composition, color mixing, brush and tool techniques, and stylistic choices based on your current skills and creative approach. The process is more important than any particular technique or style.

Watercolor Techniques "Louisiana Seafood" Still Life $75 (Instructor: CB Hume)

Create luminous Watercolor Paintings of Louisiana seafood and related items; Basically this is a still life class with Louisiana Flare. We will be covering techniques to create crawfish, crabs oysters and more, maybe we’ll even throw in a Barq’s and some Louisiana beer.

Proportional Drawing $70 (Instructor: Theresa Beaubouef)

In this class, students will construct an apparatus for use in creating photorealistic charcoal drawings. We will discuss composition and value while creating drawings with black and white charcoal on toned paper. Students will learn to choose and scale reference photos to fit specific size canvases and frames. Students will learn the basics of matting and framing, and how to save money in the process. Students can bring their own pictures and mat boards and we will use these as practice. We may take a field trip to learn about where and how to select products.

Alcohol Inks $65 (Instructor: Sandy Baham)

Experience the vibrant, colorful medium of alcohol ink. Experiment with different techniques on several different surfaces as we progress to our final masterpiece! Abstract, floral, landscapes, anything is possible with this versatile medium. Instructor will provide metallics and many colors and brands of alcohol ink to try as well as different substrates in this workshop.

Expressive Collage $75 (Instructor: Gisela Neidenfuer)

Create one or more pieces of Art in a Collage style which is assembling and layering many pieces, mostly paper, to make a “whole” Image. It is like painting with paper. This can be flat, two or three dimensional. We will be working mostly in two dimensional images. Learn how to create paper for this use, by painting with acrylic paints, watercolor on selected papers and even dye tissue paper with coffee grounds and more. Paint backgrounds, use unfinished, unsuccessful paintings, colorful paper napkins, photo’s, magazine pictures, leaves, dried flowers, stamps, letters, stencil, rubber stamps, gold leaf, lace and much more can be applied.
